How to Get the Canon 8400F Scanner to Function with Ubuntu 13.04 (64bit)

I have been unable to find advice on how to get the Canon 8400F Scanner to
function with the 64 bit version of Ubuntu 13.04.
The scanner works with Window 7 (64 bit). Which would mean that the
connections are OK.
This post Canon PIXIA MP 230 implied some hope, but the advice did not work.
Based on a search of the Ubuntu forum. The few posts are old and basically
the response is that this scanner is "unsupported" in Linux.
Looked Here -> Supported Scanners. Implied that I was out of luck. (Had to
some delete links, not enough reputation points)
Any hope?
